Dr Wong Jian Zhang graduated from National University of Singapore in 2008 and was awarded the outstanding undergraduate researcher prize (group). After graduation, he worked in various institutions such as school dental clinics, the National Dental Centre, polyclinics and the Singapore Armed Forces before joining private practices. Growing up in a traditional Cantonese family, he can speak fluently in English, Mandarin and Cantonese.
In the past decade of practicing dentistry, he believes in treating patients as individuals rather than as a single tooth. The goals of treatment are to achieve esthetic appearance, being able to eat and function well, and that the teeth are structurally sound and free of diseases and pain. It brings him great joy to restore teeth to their form and function using tooth colour composite resin fillings or with modern high strength ceramics. Proper maintenance and preventive care are also critical to prevent the diseases from manifesting again.
To attain knowledge for achieving these treatment goals, he regularly goes on courses for further training. The quest to gain more skills and knowledge have brought him around the world for continuous education. Apart from attending local courses, he hsd also travelled to overseas institutions such as Interdisciplinary Dental Education Academy (IDEA) at San Francisco, USA, Institute of Advanced Dental Education and Training (IADET) at Sydney, Australia for training. He is a regular attendee to various dental conferences such the International Dental Exhibition and Meeting (IDEM) and Hong Kong International Dental Expo and Symposium (HK IDEAS). He is also a member of the Singapore Dental Association (SDA) and College of Dental General Practitioner (CDGP).
In his free time, he likes to travel and eat, and he understand the importance of having a healthy set of teeth for eating. One of his favourite food is steak and without a set of strong healthy teeth, it will be a meal too hard to chew.
